ALUMINUM PRINTING:

Many of the photos on this website are printed on aluminum.  D.J. Richardson uses two types of aluminum printing, depending on the photo that is printed. Typically, black and white images with a strong central image are printed on brushed aluminum using an inkjet process that gives the image a visible texture.  Images such as elephant skin take on a life that can't be replicated on photo paper.  Images with strong colors are printed using a process that bonds the ink to the aluminum using high heat and pressure.  The effect is almost three-dimensional.
